Hi! I would to put an inquiry for a custom snakewood bow for violin? what type of frog styles and decorative fittings do you have?

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry about the custom snakewood violin bow, much appreciated.

We have quite a few frog styles available. For materials, you can choose from snakewood, ebony, horn, mammoth tooth, and faux tortoiseshell. In terms of decoration, we offer everything from plain wood frogs with no inlay, to mother-of-pearl and abalone shell inlays. These can be done with a single eye, Parisian eyes, or a fleur-de-lis design. We also have other artistic shaped inlay or carving options available.

I'm still undecided about the frog material. I'm considering either: ebony, horn or faux tortoiseshell. Can you send me pictures of what you have available for the inlays/carving options?

For the weight- I currently have a custom Pernambuco bow that weighs on the lighter side (by request) and I enjoy the balance and its responsiveness to my violin. What weight and balance point would you recommend for this bow particularly?

Regarding the frog, just to show what the looks like, not quality, I took some photos of semi finished frogs, but there are too many variations to capture them all. Could you give me some idea of the style or type you're looking for so that we can narrow it down.

As for the weight and balance, snakewood is considerably heavier than pernambuco, typically somewhere between 1 to 3 grams more, sometimes even heavier. The balance point can still be adjusted to feel very good, but overall for a violin bow, the total weight will definitely be on the heavier side. Compare to pernambuco violin bow.

Thanks for showing me the pictures of the frog designs- I appreciate it! For the frog, I was thinking of going for the fleur de Lis, Parisian eye or music note.

For the abalone inlays- I was thinking of doing a peacock inlay. If you have pictures, please feel free to send them!

Thanks, we have done peacock inlays in abalone before. I don't have one on hand right now but I'll have a look for it a little later while I got time to dig into the stock room, but just so you know, the template we used for the abalone version is the same as the one we use for silver or nickel inlays. So the look and layout would be the same, just with the abalone shell material instead.

About the weight of snakewood, it's heavier, is it acceptable for you, or you consider other shaft material?

As long as the bow is well balanced and comfortable to play, that’s fine with me. I’m okay with the snake wood bow.
